We all enjoy a bit of Christmas magic - time spent with family and friends, snuggling up on the sofa with to watch festive film or going for a walk with the dog on a crisp, cold morning. While it would be easy to spend December rushing around in a flurry of winter preparation, it is worth remembering that the most heartfelt and magical moments come when we stop to reflect and just be with the ones we love.
Some of the most magical memories that we can create for our children and ourselves come from the little things we do together. Here are some simple, heartwarming ideas to fill your Christmas with joy:
Take a drive past the sparkling streets after dark! Latchmere Lane always shines with its fabulous displays, but there are so many more to discover. Children and adults alike will enjoy the magic of searching for the best offering. When your done, head home for some hot chocolate and snuggle together under blanket with Christmas film or book.
Head to your local library and dive into a world of Christmas magic. All Kingston libraries have a seasonal section bursting with festive reads for the whole family. While Kingston Library itself is currently closed, Tudor Drive, Surbiton, New Malden and many others are operating as normal and provide a perfect opportunity to explore stories with beautiful Christmas messages.
Wrap up warm and head to Richmond Park for a crisp winter walk. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of Santa’s reindeer relaxing before the big night. Better yet, go at night and see if you can spot Santa's sleigh!
Did you know the International Space Station (ISS) looks just like Santa’s sleigh flying through the night sky? Check Nasa’s schedule and let the little ones spot "Father Christmas" streaking through the stars (weather permitting)! While Richmond Park is closed to cars at night, pedestrians are still able to enter. Take a torch and enjoy the dark landscape which makes perfect night sky viewing. What could be more exciting than a torch lit walk through the woods to spot Santa on his travels?
Check out the Keep's Facebook page for details of the free Christmas wreath making workshop due to take place on Friday 6th December at 7:30 pm organised by the wonderful Aggie and Emily from the Army Welfare and Community Support Service.
Following the generous donation of many toys, the volunteers at the Community Centre have organised a free gift wrapping session on Friday 13th December, 10-11:30 am. Come and choose a gift for the children in your life and wrap it all while having a friendly chat with your neighbours.
Christmas doesn't have to cost the earth. Join us in celebrating this Christmas season with the ones we love.
