A Year of Impact: KeepAbility Kingston’s Achievements and Future Goals

November 23, 2024

As the year winds down, it’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on the milestones KeepAbility Kingston has reached since its launch in May 2024. This year has been filled with progress, community connection, and meaningful support for military families and veterans across Kingston. Here's a look back at what we’ve achieved together and what lies ahead.

Highlights of 2024

From workshops to community events, KeepAbility has worked tirelessly to create opportunities and provide support tailored to the unique needs of military families and veterans:

  • Skill-Building Workshops: We hosted sessions on crucial topics such as accessing wellbeing resources, crafting compelling CVs, using LinkedIn effectively, and creating vision boards to map out future aspirations.
  • One-to-One Support: Personalised guidance and tailored business support have helped individuals enhance their employability and grow their potential.
  • Digital Skills Training: In partnership with Kingston Borough Council, we provided free digital training, along with laptops and SIM cards for those in need, ensuring access to vital tools for work and learning.

Advocacy and Representation

We’ve strengthened ties with the council and our MP, Sarah Olney, to advocate for tailored support for military families and veterans. Beyond policy discussions, we’ve proudly represented KeepAbility Kingston at local events like:

  • The Latchmere Dog Show
  • St Agatha’s Summer Fair
  • The Latchmere Christmas Fair

These events helped us connect with the community, raise awareness, and celebrate the resilience of the families we serve.

Community Impact

Our efforts have extended beyond workshops and advocacy. Highlights include:

  • Supporting Children’s Activities: Donating £200 to fund groups and projects, including the creation of a poignant Remembrance installation.
  • Providing Essential Support: Assisting families with housing, school placements, financial aid, and crisis resources, including food and clothing donations.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we plan for the year ahead, our focus remains on expanding our reach and offerings. We aim to:

  • Strengthen support networks for military families and veterans in Kingston.
  • Build on our successful workshops and personalised guidance programs.
  • Continue advocating for policies that address the unique needs of our community.

Whether you’re looking to participate, need assistance, or want to lend your support, KeepAbility Kingston is here to help. Together, we can create an even stronger and more connected community in 2025 and beyond.

Thank you for being part of this journey, and here’s to an impactful and inspiring year ahead!
